Avon

This existing Parnell railway worker’s cottage was situated on a west facing site and in a sensitive heritage zone. The existing cottage was too small for the owner’s needs, was poorly oriented to take advantage of sun and outlook, and was in need of a substantial refurbishment Our response was to provide a glazed pavilion on the rear of the site, moving the living spaces to this area to take advantage of the outlook and afternoon sun. A large skylight was added over the kitchen to light the entire space, and to provide a focal point. The addition provides for all the amenity of a contemporary home, while maintaining a sympathetic relationship to the existing cottage, which was fully refurbished.
